“Even as a young boy, I had a reputation for taking things apart to see what made them work. I confess this got me into a lot of hot water as a child. My father used to work long hours, and as the youngest of ten children, my mother was pretty busy, so I had plenty of free time to occupy myself. So, whenever I grew tired of fishing, I would tinker with lawn mowers, electric motors, automobiles, or whatever else I could get my hands on. I know I was given a gift of mechanical ability and I’ve always loved to learn how to bring parts to life.”
“As I grew up, my Dad began the beginnings of N.A.L. Company right in our garage. My brothers and I would work for him, building little machines in our garage and doing odd jobs he assigned to us. I used to unwind rolls of paper he would make, something I found tedious and time-consuming, but he would pay me a nickel every time I completed my task.”
“After graduating high school, I went to Cincinnati Technical College and studied Mechanical Engineering. For my graduation challenge, I was given the task of designing a machine to wrap bars of soap at 300 pieces per minute. I thought ‘wow, that’s so fast!’ But, still managed to come up with a design that could do so. I visited several machinery companies in the Greater Cincinnati area and realized that building machinery is my passion and what I want to do it for a living. After I had completed my graduation project, I was offered a position I couldn’t refuse at a local high-speed machinery company.”
“I enjoyed my time at this company, moving up in ranks over the years and traveling the world. The only issue was being away from my wife and children so often. I realized that I wanted to stay closer to home and be around my family as much as possible.”
“Upon making that decision, I came to N.A.L. Company to help my father and brothers on the machine end of the business. My favorite part of my job today is showing up to the plant knowing that the machines we have built together are functioning to make a difference in the lives of our customers. I’m so proud to be apart of a company that values family, its clients, and hard work.”
“We’re not able to read one another’s minds, but we can work collaboratively to share what needs to be done and how we can improve. I think it speaks volumes of the N.A.L. management team that we are family, all still here, and we (most of the time!) agree. I think that says a lot for seven strong-willed men.”
“Thanks for listening.”
